Yeah I can run a 5k and yeah I could probably kick your ass, but .....
I started practicing exotic easy chair routines at home. Just things I found on Youtube. I saw there was alot of these "Pole Fitness" videos. So my search began. Then found this place.
Holy Carp! Let me tell you I fell in love.
I know I can hear your confused voice now...
"But Kitty I thought only strippers dance on poles? Are you a Stripper now?"
No I'm not a Stripper (but have endless love for the girls that get on stage every night and make that paper.)
Pole dancing isn't just for strippers my Vixens. It is a WORKOUT like you've never had before. Any size and any shape can do this.
Let me paint a picture for you. I'm about to get real honest with you...but that's how I roll. I stand a hot and sexy 5' 7" tall. I am right around 190lbs (give or take...I haven't weighed myself in a long time because it's pointless) . I have a 37" waist, and thighs and a shake (booty that is... not chicken wings people) that have their own alter ego just by themselves. I see all these littler Vixens trying out pole dancing and I think to myself "Kitty you are crazy if you think your ass is going to be able to do this without seriously injuring yourself...you remember what happened when you tried to pull that sweet move roller skating?" So I told myself....F it! I'm doing this! Life is short and you might as well give it a whirl.
So here's my progress...thus far...along with my semi-review. It may seemed bias but I haven't had any negative mojo from these gals. It rocks!
In November I started my P1 class aka pole fitness/dance 101. I showed up with full stripper hells ( check out my blog for photos) in hand and sporting my sweet 80's off the shoulder t-shirt and leggings. It's once a week for the whole month. In my first day I learned why strippers where those hot heels, why their toes stick out, and why they wear next to nothing (besides the obvious reason).
I also earned my first pole dance bruise. These are badges of honor my Vixens! Do Not be ashamed! Awesome "Tricks" sometimes come with Awesome battle scars. Wear these suckers with pride my pretties.
I learned all your basic "Dance" type moves. Slow=control Control=better muscle workout (Try doing a pull-up or push-up realllly slow and try doing one fast...tell me which one makes you hate it more?)
In December I classed up to P2 class aka Pole fitness/dance 201. Here's where the pain begins (good pain that is). Here's where you learn spins and the basics as far as different holds go. I showed up my first day wearing workout shorts this time, a cute workout shirt, and no heels. I did all my 200 classes with no heels. You still have to stand on your toes so you get the right posture, but I find it easier for me to learn in bare feet and practice in heels. This way I'm focusing on learning and not falling. Everyone does it different. After my second class I figured I would wear something a little more "appropriate". So the next 3 classed I showed up in a Booty Skort.
soap box alert* I find that what I wear to class has nothing to do with what the other people think. If I feel I look hot in a polka dot unitard then that's what I'm going to wear. I like the idea of dressing sexy whilst pole dancing. Also skin helps you stick to the pole.
Soap box done...
After my first 200 class I was sore from head....to toe. Amazing! The instructor kicked my ass, and didn't even have to lay a finger on me. She's just that good.
I struggled with the holds at first. It's hard to not get frustrated, but keep at it. It gets better every time :-) Don't over think it. The teacher would start talking to me (about something non-dance related) when I was struggling and poof I would pull off some sweet moves. So rule of 200...yes it's harder...stick with it! It pays off in the end and you start to see results in P2 once you really try.
Workshops: (Exotic/Floor Routine)
During December I Also took the "Exotic" Workshop. It was a 2 hour "walk-in" style class. These little workshops are meant to supplement the time you aren't in class. Kind of like lifting weights on the day you don't jog...Only this doesn't suck like either of those do.
I'll post a video of it below. (this is what first sparked my interest in taking classes here. I love being sassy and sexy.) It may look slow...but it ain't easy. let me tell you. The sassier you make it the harder it is. Hot, sexy, and a hell of a workout.
I am seriously stoked about the other workshops. If they are anything like this one; it will rock.
During January I decided not to take to 300 class yet. I've been practicing my 100,200, and exotic moves. I go to the open gym once a week and workout. They play what ever you want music wise, turn off the big lights, power up the black lights and low lights, and let you just go at it. You work at your own pace and can try out new moves you've learned or even work on your own routine. :-)
I really suggest this place. It's not hoity toity like the other pole fitness places in the area, and the instructors are awesome at what they do. They are bold and not bashful, which I love, and take the time to make sure you are enjoying yourself and getting a work out at the same time. They also offer yoga, belly dancing, and of course the usual private party/instruction time for a little more cash. You really can't beat the prices for the classes, and the experience you get out of it is truly priceless.
So take the time and get off your ass Vixens! 2011 is time to bring the hotness and Envy Pole Fitness is one sure fire way to do it!
I will be tracking my progress in my blog, and let me know if you try it.
xoxo
